Well, long days, no see. NO, I was not tired, I was not in hospital, I was not in jail, and I was not busy though. I just had nothing in my mind to write about. In fact I started writing about something special, something important. But somehow I could not finish. And day after day it was diminished from my mind, and now I just forgot, what I was writing about.
In Kolkata it’s now festive season. After a long vacation of Durga puja, finally comes the great festival of light – the kali puja. It’s bright and shine all over the Kolkata, India as well. Exhibition of various types of crackers of various colours and sound is the common thing in everywhere. And the most important thing is I am concentrating myself to write about something which is floating around my mind right now keeping all those light and sound effects aside.
Last day I went some place where I found some people are arguing each other that which is better: Dying in hunger for freedom OR Slavery for protection. At the very beginning I was a bit puzzled listening to them, and then I joined them and shared my views with them. And now I am going to share those things with you guys.
At the beginning I just want to tell you to look at the two options you have. There is no scope to justify those as good or bad. It doesn’t even matter if one is right or other is wrong. It does only depend on the person who has a proper vantage angle of viewpoint. It’s always you, who can choose one of those as right and the rest as wrong. So this is the way of thinking, the freedom is given to you. So what I am going to discuss is only my view and may not overlap with others.
Now let me elaborate the two ideas. Dying in hunger for freedom gives you the total liberty to choose how you lead your life on your own, doesn’t put any question on your livelihood, but also doesn’t provide you with anything for your need and doesn’t take any responsibility even when you are dying in hunger. But the very next idea gives you all the things you need for your livelihood in exchange with your own freedom and always put an eye on you. Now the thing is that everyone has the liberty to choose one idea, this is one type of freedom.
Now the next important thing is to know about freedom. What is freedom actually? Yes of course it’s one of the relative terms in the English dictionary. Some say that you are free when you have no one to ask you about anything. You have total liberty to decide for being yourself. Yes they are quiet right about it. I had heard some other ideas about freedom in that discussion that I want to share with you. Some of them were confusing though.
I gladly chose the first option as I consider being free always. In the most extent of freedom, which is the ultimate freedom, you don’t have any family, but you may have friends, though you are not social properly, right because you don’t want any responsibility. Sometimes it makes you satisfied, but sometimes it makes you unhappy as well. So it’s the hardest part to choose an ultimate freedom. You have to have the guts to make yourself free. Have you ever seen the movie ‘Into the Wild’? I am well inspired after watching the movie; I don’t dare taking such a decision though. In this situation of freedom you don’t have any family, you may not have money, you may have to hunt for food, you may have to use the river for water, and you may have to take a temporary job for your livelihood. It’s natural, It’s the beauty of freedom and it’s obvious when you are satisfied. I am quoting some of my favourite quotes from the movie. you can justify the sentences itself: “I read somewhere… how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong… but to feel strong“, “I’m going to paraphrase Thoreau here… rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness… give me truth”, ” Some people feel like they don’t deserve love. They walk away quietly into empty spaces, trying to close the gaps of the past”, ” If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed“, “The core of mans’ spirit comes from new experiences”, ”…I will miss you too, but you are wrong if you think that the joy of life comes principally from the joy of human relationships. God’s place is all around us, it is in everything and in anything we can experience. People just need to change the way they look at things”, “When you want something in life, you just gotta reach out and grab it”, “The sea’s only gifts are harsh blows, and occasionally the chance to feel strong. Now I don’t know much about the sea, but I do know that that’s the way it is here. And I also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong. To measure yourself at least once. To find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions. Facing the blind death stone alone, with nothing to help you but your hands and your own head”, “The freedom and simple beauty is too good to pass up”, “It should not be denied that being footloose has always exhilarated us. It is associated in our minds with escape from history and oppression and law and irksome obligations. Absolute freedom. And the road has always led west”. Interesting, Huh? But he is the one who tells something important at the end: “Happiness only real when shared”. It’s one idea about freedom ultimatum.
But there are some other ideas too. You don’t have to leave your family, your friends, your belongings behind while walking in the path of freedom. That means you are not negotiating your responsibilities with your liberty. If you consider the basic definition of freedom, you can see that you have total liberty to choose being yourself. That means no one will ever ask you what you have to do and what you have not to do. You are the one who is going to decide for yourself what you are gonna do and what you are not. No one will ever ask you for any responsibility and no one will take your responsibility even. Look at the large class of employee; they are well paid, well accommodated. They are getting handsome pay check, medical insurance and everything else, but in expense of something else that they can’t find sometimes. It’s the freedom, liberty. They are not literally like slaves of ancient age but they are quite like them. They are bound to someone, or somebody or something. Now the question is are they happy? Yes sometimes their family, their precious matter to them the most than everything else in this world. By getting the handsome compensation, they are able to meet their needs, all their demands, thus make them happy. Yes they are quite happy being slaves. ‘Happiness’ is also a relative word and far from the ‘Freedom’, that differs in every person in every way. Let it put for another day.
Now look at the other class of people, the employer. They creates money, thus happiness(?). They are quite free. The businessmen, the doctors, the professors, and all the people who live on themselves – they all enjoy a certain level of freedom in the society. Isn’t it? They may not have the security of their earnings, their livelihood, their food, their water, their cloths, they may have to depend on others for living, but what they have in genuine with them is their own liberty. They can leave off their occupation for some days without asking anybody, without showing any cause. This is the basic level of freedom what the employees lack of. I am not telling that it is wrong or right. But it’s the fact that defines and differentiates an employee and an employer. They can’t be the same. One makes money, one just enjoys it. One makes happiness, one just enjoys it. One achieves and the other claps. One smiles, other shies.
What I believe is everybody in this earth born as ‘nobody’, but for some reasons. Some people are too reluctant to know that reasons. But one, who finds that ‘some’ reasons, turns out to be a ‘somebody’ from ‘nobody’. To know this reason, you have to take risk, but you have to be quite sure what you are gonna do. Once Sourav Ganguly, the famous cricketer said in some interview that one, who doesn’t take risk, can’t achieve anything. You have to be brave enough to take the odd path, which no one else has taken ever, which is new to you. Because always the gold is hidden and away from the common path, only who is dared enough, can reach the treasure. Achievement is meant only for those who are willing enough to grab it. And the rest, does belong to the ‘great class of employee’.
I don’t know, but I will always go with the first option if I ever have a chance. I am ready to die for freedom rather for hunger. It will give me a proper cause for dying. I don’t know whether it is good or harmful for me, but it certainly gives me satisfaction and eternal happiness.
I don’t know guys what the hell are you thinking about me, about all these. But I really welcome you to share your views. I don’t really know whether anyone can actually read my blog or not, whether I am the only one to read my blog in this lonely world, whether I actually can share my feelings toward life or not. But this makes me thinking that something is coming out of my brain that I actually can share. This makes me happy; finally this makes me feel the essence of freedom.
What about you?
